I came for a mini weekend getaway because my own home is being demolished and rebuilt after a flood. If I'd known what the construction would actually be like, I would have booked somewhere else. I was emailed that there would be no work over the weekend, but on Saturday the room next door was being demolished while I was trying to relax. There was extremely loud banging, tiles falling and smashing, and saws and drills. I had to leave my room. At the desk I showed them the email saying there'd be no weekend construction. They said their manager had emailed them about drywall removal. They offered to move me. I asked to stay if the work would be finished by that evening, and only if there'd be no work Sunday. They reassured me there'd be no construction at all on Sunday, so I stayed another night. That was a mistake. I understand work has to happen, but with honest notice I could have chosen another hotel. The parking at the liquor store was sketchy too. Way overpriced for this treatment, and definitely not five star.

The room was beautiful and spacious, with a wonderful view. I visited a friend who stayed for a week and spent three nights there myself. The main problem was noise: we could hear people talking outside, and someone in the next room hit the wall while we were having a conversation, so the walls don't block sound well. Housekeeping kept knocking after being told we weren't ready. They also forgot to leave water. When we called reception, they said we'd have to pay, even though I'd explained we'd received water for the previous three days. After we left and returned the next day, the room had been cleaned and two bottles of water were there. Staff should know what they're doing and how to deal with people. Still, it was a beautiful place to stay.

The hotel shuttle took us to the airport in the morning, and the restaurant on site had a decent menu, though its hours are limited. Our room was comfortable and quiet for a reasonable price. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was convenient for the event we were attending in the city on Kenaston.

The room was nice, the service was great, the location was good, and breakfast was free. The pool was gross and slimy, though, and the bottoms of my feet have been itchy since. The lot is tiny, and overflow parking is in the beer vendor lot, which felt sketchy to walk through to our vehicle. You never know whether a drunk driver will stop for you to cross.

We paid $1157 for 3 nights, which felt way overpriced. The lobby furniture looked dirty, and because of construction we had to park in a nearby liquor store lot with no security officer. Our premium vehicle felt vulnerable there. We chose the hotel for its location, and the staff service was great despite the problems. But I just stayed at Halifax Hilton Garden for $100 less per nite and would give it 5 stars. The Winnipeg hotel didn't deserve a 5 star rating.
