Microtel Inn

The hotel was very clean, with nice landscaping and an easy spot just off the 401. Breakfast was better than average, and it's about 1 km from the hospital and close to downtown and oldtown. I was very satisfied overall. The rate felt a bit high given how empty the hotel was. The breakfast area could use more tables, and the carpeting could use a more modern look. Netflix only works if you have an account, and I'd have preferred an electric kettle to the K-Cup machine.

The staff were really nice and accommodating, which helped make an otherwise just-okay stay decent. The price was on the cheaper side, but I've paid less for better hotels, and the walls definitely aren't soundproof. There was a lot of dust in the room, and the hallway carpets needed a good vacuum. The lobby looked nice, but cleanliness could be better overall. I also wasn't keen on the pool, which didn't seem very clean, and breakfast was disappointing with very few choices. Three stars for me.

Room 221 was clean, but pretty beat up, with damage to the walls and furniture. The mattress was really lumpy, which was the main downside. Breakfast was a standard hotel spread, sausage patties and waffles, and it was good. The location was quiet, and for what I paid I guess I'm satisfied, except for that lumpy bed. I expected something amazing from all the other reviews, especially the 4 and 5 star ones, so the place didn't quite live up to that.

We were greeted warmly when we arrived and offered bottled water. It may sound small, but all those thoughtful touches together made a difference compared with other places. Coffee is available around the clock, and the staff were friendly. The room was very clean and comfortable, the pool opening at 7 am was great, and the hospitality was excellent. I also liked the welcome message on the TV with our name and information about the amenities. We were very happy with the stay and definitely recommend this place.
