Capital Suites Yellowknife

It was quiet and cozy, and I was happy with the clean room, the service, and the airport shuttle. I stayed twice, for two nights each time, and found the amenities good. I’d recommend staying here.

At least the heating held up in -30°C. The shower never got hot enough, though, and the thin walls meant other guests’ yelling and arguing woke me up almost every night. Good thing I’d brought earplugs.

The suite itself was clean and decent, but the shared areas and service made the stay feel really unpleasant. Cannabis smell hung around the lobby, elevators, entryway, and parking garage almost the whole time. There seemed to be no enforcement of the no-smoking rules, and with the thin walls I could hear everything. The whole place had an unwelcoming, sketchy feel. When I needed help, the front desk staff were hard to reach by phone and often gave me a blank look or no answer. They acted as if guests were a nuisance, never smiled, and wouldn’t help with luggage even when I had a lot of bags. I started wondering if I was in a hotel or a jail. I honestly don’t know if this deserves two stars, and I definitely won’t stay again.

The room was hard to rest in because the upstairs noise was so loud. It sounded like people were running around constantly, and the soundproofing was poor. Checking out didn’t help the impression. The front desk man waved me over and told me to wait without saying anything else. It came across as rude and unprofessional.
