Stanton Suites Hotel Yellowknife

I’m here for medical care and need to rest, but people in the next room were playing loud music and yelling and swearing at each other all night. The hotel calls itself relaxing, so it would be good if they were stricter about noise and partying.

The hotel itself was in great shape and very well maintained. I arrived Saturday, June 21, at 11:30 p.m., and the person at the front desk was completely unprofessional. She had earphones in, didn’t greet me, and only said, “I need ID.” She shouldn’t be working in customer service.

The room was so hot and dry I couldn’t relax. The temperature control didn’t work: I turned off the heater, but warm air kept coming in from somewhere. The soundproofing was also terrible. We could hear someone vomiting next door, and in the morning the cleaning staff talked so loudly that I couldn’t sleep in after staying up late to watch the aurora. The bathroom had several problems too. The door wouldn’t stay closed, the toilet moved around and wouldn’t flush properly, and the sink drained extremely slowly. I told the front desk, but nothing was done. The hotel is old and badly dated, and the room was not a peaceful place to rest. I’ll never come back.

The location worked for me: the hotel sits on a nice hill and connects to paths near the Frame Lake trail. The beds were comfortable and the sheets were clean, and housekeeping did a good job, though they seemed short-staffed. Getting soap replaced took repeated requests. The rooms feel dated, with thin walls and stained furniture. Front desk service was the weakest part of my stay. Some staff seemed unhappy to be there, and others lied about handling my request. For the price, I don’t think it compares well with other local options. It needs updating and better quality control, though it is an option if you need somewhere to stay.
