The staff are so warm and personal that they felt like family by the end of the first day. Chef Daniel's cooking is amazing, proper five-star food in a wonderful setting, and the views across green meadows with cowbells are fantastic. The rooms are great too, and the sauna and pool are amazing. If you're staying in Appenzell, this place is a gem. It's just five minutes from downtown Appenzell, and I wouldn't miss it. Best experience in Appenzell, hands down.

The wellness area is really nice, and both it and the rooms are clean. The owner is super nice and welcoming, though some of the waiting staff felt a bit lackluster by comparison. There is a minibar, but no tea or coffee in the rooms. You can buy them downstairs if you're feeling flush. The food is rich Swiss fare, but the vegan choices are severely limited. The CHF 28.50 plate I had was two carrots, ten beans, two broccoli florets, a couple of dollops of spinach, and cooked kohlrabi around a tomato. With facilities and views like these, the place gets three stars from me, but the kitchen needs to catch up with the times.

Loved the food, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I only speak English, so my friends helped with the menu, but the staff still made an effort to include me even though they couldn't speak with me directly.

We all really enjoyed the excellent food, and the traditional Swiss meat loaf my wife and I had was a pleasure in every bite. That dish can sometimes be fatty, but this one wasn't at all. We had dinner at short notice, and the staff were very friendly. The building has a cozy traditional Swiss section alongside a modern restaurant with big windows and a great view over the picturesque Appenzell area. It made for a lovely countryside meal with a view, and I'd happily recommend it.
