Hapimag Resort Ascona

We keep coming back because the reception and restaurant teams are so welcoming. They’ve been here for years, remember returning guests, and make the place feel friendly. Our kids also know and love the same wonderful young woman who leads the children’s program each summer, which has grown a lot. There are plenty of activities for adults too, so everyone has something to do. After ten years of visits, we’ve watched the well-kept property gain thoughtful improvements year by year. It’s still one of the coziest Hapimag resorts we’ve visited, and we’re always glad to return. The main thing I’d change is the cooling. There are only fans in the rooms, and while they help a bit, proper air conditioning would make a big difference to comfort and quality, especially as summers get hotter and expectations have changed. The fitness room also gets too warm once you start exercising, so steady cooling there would help.

The whole family loved it, and we didn’t want to leave. The accommodation, food, and service were all outstanding. A wonderful resort for families.

The hotel was clean when we stayed this October, but the service was practically nonexistent. Need more toilet paper? You call reception and are told to go to the basement and get it yourself. Need an extra towel for the pool? They charge you to rent one. With prices this high, I expected to be treated accordingly. I’ll never stay here again and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

The lack of a resort-wide non-smoking rule is why I’m giving this place one star, even though the resort itself is generally very nice, especially for families with kids. In summer we had to keep the window open to cool the room, and smoke from chain smokers on the neighboring balcony made our apartment stink badly. Tobacco fumes smell awful and can cause cancer when breathed in, so staying in the room affected our health. I’d change my rating if the whole resort ever became non-smoking.
