Hotel Elvezia Ascona

We booked at the last minute because nowhere else was available, and the four of us shared a room with a wonderful view. Breakfast was okay. The early arrival we’d requested was approved, then denied once we got there. The beds were also a problem: with the two extra beds set up, the room was crowded, and the sharp corners and legs kept catching us. We all ended up bruised after bumping into the frames and tripping over the legs. That cost it a star for me.

We had a wonderful time. The hotel is well run and the staff were excellent, with a lovely location. To be honest, the rooms could probably use a makeover.

The view was incredible, with snow-capped mountains and palm trees together. Our room was wonderful, and we loved sitting out on the terrace. It was also conveniently close to restaurants. Our concierge called Ascona a “sleepy village,” and I couldn’t agree more. We walked a little by the lake before leaving in the morning. I’d highly recommend Hotel Elvezia if you want a lovely place to stay in Ascona.

We got a free upgrade to a better room, which was cool. The room and bed were simple but perfectly fine and clean, and the old photographs in the stairway were a nice touch. Breakfast was okay, and the cost-benefit ratio seemed fair. The view over the lake is stunning, and the location is perfect. Staff were friendly and nice. Check out the October 1868 floodwater level marker in the Restaurant. Dinner service was closed because of the COVID restrictions, but there were takeaways available nearby in town.
