The location is great, but the hassle wasn't worth it. There were six of us women in three rooms, and each room was charged a different price with no reconciliation. We didn't get our Basil Cards until the last day, so we had to pay out of pocket for train, bus, and trolley trips. They wouldn't consider a credit or refund.

We had every intention of staying, so we booked a non-refundable room. Then devastating circumstances forced us to cancel: my father suddenly became seriously ill and was given only weeks to live. I explained what had happened and asked if they could show some compassion or discretion. They sent a brief condolence, but then just repeated the terms and said there would be no refund. Being told, “I kindly ask you for your understanding,” felt dismissive and impersonal given what we were dealing with. I know policies exist, but customer service also means showing compassion in exceptional situations. That wasn't our experience, and the response felt procedural instead of human.

Plenty of places to eat nearby, and this was good value for a quick stop between train journeys. Check-in took a bit of guesswork, but the coffee machine was very welcome.

The hotel was right by the train station, which was very handy, and I didn't have the noise problems mentioned in other reviews. Check-in was quick with the self-service machine. My room was clean enough and fine for one night. The bathroom seemed a little dated and could do with an update, though the water pressure was fine.
