The room had a broken bathroom light and TV, and neither room's A/C worked properly. In the first room it wouldn't turn on; in the replacement room the fan ran, but the air never got cold. We spent all five nights with the windows open and got bitten by mosquitoes. We had asked three times at check-in that nobody enter our room during the stay, and kept the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door. Still, after a day out, we found the maid had come in, moved all our valuables to make the bed, and hung up the dirty towels we'd left on the floor. We were furious. The same staff member who checked us in was rude and seemed not to care. Only then did he say rooms had to be cleaned at least every three days, something he'd never mentioned despite our asking and confirming three times. Had we known, we'd have left right away. I demanded a full refund, but was told there were apparently no managers working on weekends. Maybe that's part of the problem. Shouldn't managers oversee their staff on the two busiest days of the week? Best that no one ever stays here.

The room had the essentials and made for an easy, comfortable stay, but Irma and Wissam were what really made the visit. They were genuinely kind and helpful, with suggestions for local sights, places to eat authentically, and cultural experiences we might otherwise have missed. As an Italian speaker, Irma was especially helpful. She patiently guided us through the language and local customs, and her honest, spontaneous manner put us at ease. You could tell she cared about making our stay as good as possible.

Someone was smoking in the stairwell, and the smell spread through the hallway. The bar staff were extremely rude.

The room was comfortable, but had no extra amenities, which is what you'd expect from a budget hotel in Lausanne. Room 302 had a faint cigarette smell, while the bathroom smelled much more strongly of tobacco. It was especially noticeable when using the hair dryer, which blew out air with an even stronger tobacco smell, despite this being a non-smoking room.
