The peaceful, unusual atmosphere at Hotel Schatzalp made it a great place to relax and switch off. I had a very nice stay in Davos, largely because of the remarkable setting high above town. The mountain and valley views are breathtaking, and waking up to them felt special.

There’s a lovely little botanical garden right in front of the hotel. The building could use renovation, though its history is easy to feel. Reports say Thomas Mann and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle were the only ones who stayed here, but you can still imagine Poirot ordering herbal tea beside you. The waiters don’t quite measure up, but the food is good enough to make you forget that. Don’t rush, the place is magnificent and a must-see in Davos.

The hotel is beautiful, and the location is incredible. We visited in winter and loved it, especially the sweet hotel cats, which were a real highlight. Everyone was so lovely, and the spot worked perfectly for our ski day.

The fresh air, one of the main attractions, gets spoiled by cigarette smoke drifting up from the terrace and other balconies, which is why I can only give four stars. Otherwise, this is a unique historic institution with lovely staff and a very good restaurant. There are few modern luxuries, and to me that adds to the hotel's charm and beauty. I also love that there are no cars.

What a phenomenal place, with a phenomenal view. I attended the devils Swedish brunch at the hotel and really enjoyed the people, their energy, and the good view.
