Hotel Regina Titlis, a Trademark Collection by Wyndham

The central location in Engelberg worked well, and the hotel has a direct bus shuttle to the cable car station, handy for skiers and snowboarders. My room faced the mountains at an angle and had a very pretty view. The room size was okay and it had a balcony, but there wasn’t much else to like about the room. No iron or board, kettle, or complimentary tea or coffee, basics I’d expect even in a budget hotel. It’s sold as a four-star hotel because of its pool and spa, but the room felt more like a two-star place, especially if you’re not in a renovated room. Ours was extremely worn. The finish on the wardrobe doors had worn down to bare wood, and the bathroom door was in the same state. I regret not taking photos. The bathrooms also didn’t look very nice for a four-star hotel. The pool was smaller than I expected, and the spa was tiny, with two saunas marked 60 and 90 degrees Celsius that didn’t feel that hot. The spa staff, though, were kind, friendly, and always ready to help. The rooms were far too hot, with no way to turn down the heat. The breakfast buffet was nice and had a wide range of options. We couldn’t try the dinner restaurant any night, as it was fully booked three days in advance. That’s insane, in my opinion. There were screaming children all over the hotel. After skiing, I found two unsupervised kids chasing each other and yelling on my floor, and no one seemed to notice or care. We couldn’t relax in the spa either, with children jumping in the pool, splashing, and screaming the whole time. For the price, it definitely wasn’t worth it. You can find a much better hotel for less.

The rooms were good and had balconies, but the service was frustrating. Check-in took 30 minutes, and the staff seemed not to care that guests were waiting. We asked for warm water and weren’t given any. We booked three rooms at CHF 200 each, yet still had to pay CHF 20 for parking. The restaurant refused to seat us even though there were seats available. Breakfast was limited, and the plates were tiny. The staff need to change if the hotel is to run smoothly. This is hospitality, so customer service matters. I’m not sure anyone is listening.

For that price, this place felt like a two-star hotel, and I wouldn’t return. There were no toiletries, coffee machine, extra towels, blankets, or pillows in the room, and the fridge was broken. The staff weren’t accommodating, friendly, or helpful. After a booking mistake and an extra payment, there was no compensation or assistance. They didn’t seem to know much about hospitality or high-class service. The fire alarm went off several times and the fire department came. We’d been looking forward to the spa and sauna, but they were closed.

The rooms were a nightmare, far too hot to sleep even without a blanket. The only suggestion was to sleep with the balcony door open in the middle of January. There was no mini fridge or coffee and tea machine either. The location was the only okay part.
