Grand Hotel & Kurhaus

We had a pleasant stay, thanks in part to the beautiful setting in a Larch Forest with impressive mountain views. The dining and common rooms have a cosy feel and a library, with a sense of the region's early tourism days. Still, I don't think the Grand Hotel offers good value for money. The rooms are very basic, with no TVs or minibars, the beds are decidedly short if you're over 1.8, and our heating didn't work properly. Breakfast was simple for the price. It's a nice place to stay in a beautiful setting, but don't expect much infrastructure.

The views, location, decor, architecture and hikes were stunning. We kept wanting to add another night and put off going back to reality. The staff were wonderful too, with smiles, excellent service, flexibility and generosity. When a family member joined me, Alexis and Julie were so accommodating and flexible about extending our stay during high season. The breakfast was good, and our rooms were clean. The setting is magnificent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. A special mention to Julia at the front desk, who was terrific. This is a rustic hotel, so don't expect luxury, but that adds to its charm. We were disappointed by the dinner options and would have preferred heartier food for hikers, though that's a separate review. Another wonderful stay at the Kurhaus.

Dogs are more than welcome, and families with young kids were well looked after too. We had good food, an excellent wine menu, and delicious homemade jam at breakfast. The seating in the restaurants could use a refresh, but it fits a 3-star mountain establishment. Rooms are basic but functional, clean and in line with the very reasonable prices. There are two big lounges and a great terrace, plus super friendly, welcoming staff, kudos to them. A perfect base for ski touring and hiking, just above the village of Arolla with stunning views. Highly recommended!
