The view is the main reason to stop here, and it’s lovely (see video). There’s a small parking area with electricity and toilets behind the hotel, plus a restaurant and bar and ski lifts in the complex. Across the road is a highly rated takeaway. A small town with shops, including a supermarket, is nearby, and there’s plenty for adults and kids to do. I came outside ski season, so it was quieter and many shops and bars were shut or closed early. Still worth staying for the views.

Being right beside the ski lift is a real plus, and the restaurant serves tasty, home-style meals for breakfast and dinner. The restaurant staff were attentive and pleasant. The beds and bedding were uncomfortable and made for itchy nights, with the mattresses and pillows to blame. Noise carries from the neighboring bathroom. The boot heater only runs for an hour from 7 AM and didn’t dry or warm my boots properly. The electric saver switches are thoughtful environmentally, but there are too many, leaving the room dark and unwelcoming.

The staff are very friendly, and the place is basically clean as long as you don’t inspect the ceiling or fireplace. It’s also close to the ski station and bus stop. Sadly, it feels like one of those Swiss hotels that are going downhill, despite tourism. The prices have moved with the times, but the decor and charm are stuck in the 60s. The offering comes close to arrogance. It could be a 70s horror movie location, and you wouldn’t need to move any furniture.

After seeing the other reviews, I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not especially modern, but feels homely and the staff were lovely. Both dinner and breakfast were really good, and you can rent skis right in the foyer with experienced help available. The gondola is right next door. New mattresses would help sore muscles after a day on the slopes, and the shower heads could do with replacing. A few small comforts like that, perhaps in a summer renovation, would make me happy to give it five stars and return every year.
