Idyll

We slept really well in this peaceful, quiet area, and the rooms were clean and comfortable with everything we needed. The breakfast was fresh and delicious, and everyone was friendly, helpful and accommodating. We came to town for Alpstein Clinic, but also loved the beautiful area in August and the walks with their amazing views. Just be aware that there are stairs and no elevators. When we arrived, someone offered to help carry our suitcases to the rooms. We’d certainly stay again if we come to Gais.

Update: Frau Meier responded quickly and was very open to sorting things out. I really appreciate her customer-focused attitude. I was very disappointed to find the WC filthy when I entered the room. Reception said they’d send someone to clean it, so I waited half an hour, but nobody came. I’d come for a relaxing yoga weekend, and this surprise spoiled the experience. I also paid the same Einselzimmer price as my friends but got a tiny room, while they had double rooms for single use. The walls are thin, though luckily the hotel provides earplugs. Dinner is basic, but breakfast is nice, and the honesty bar is pleasant. The walk from the train station is an easy 15-20 minutes.

The setting is just what you imagine for a Swiss landscape: an old house among green fields, farms and lovely paths. The rooms are spacious, clean and charming, with wooden walls and ceilings, and the shared bathrooms are clean and well maintained. Staff are cheerful and really helpful. There’s free fresh and dried fruit throughout the day, plus a self-service wine, liquor and coffee bar with a great selection. Plenty of gluten-free, dairy-free and superfood options too. Just amazing. I’ll definitely come back with family and friends!

The walk from the train station takes about 15-20 minutes. On the way, hundreds of cows seemed likely to come toward me, and I thought it was dangerous when a few looked like they were running at me. I was the only Asian person there, and I didn’t like how the locals looked and stared at me. The scariest part was being the only guest at the hotel. Around 8 pm I went out for some air, but the door was locked, there were no lights on, and it felt very frightening. The next morning, ten women dressed in white at the breakfast buffet scared me too. It felt like something from a movie. The owner was very kind and prepared bread and fruit for my early check-out. That was the only good thing I experienced during my stay. Scary, weird, nobody around at night, holy cows.
