Parkhotel Schoenegg

We got a room upgrade when we arrived, with a beautiful view of the Alps. The buffet breakfast was included and was a delicious treat, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Robes, slippers, a sauna, hot tub, and ice plunge all added to the stay. The location is fantastic, right in the heart of Grindelwald. I'd absolutely stay here again.

Breakfast was a real highlight, especially the friendly men working there, and one day a man I think was the owner came by to ask how things were. The location and parking were also very convenient. But we booked a superior balcony room for our anniversary and were first put on the first floor. When I showed the staff our booking.com messages and photos, they said the rooms were the same and all balcony rooms were taken, then offered an upgrade for an extra charge. Another receptionist eventually found us a second-floor room. The hotel wasn't full, and the first- and second-floor superior rooms aren't the same, so the booking.com photos and descriptions felt misleading. I had also seen reviews mentioning free upgrades, and the claim that every balcony room was full didn't seem true. On checkout day, while guests were still there, they had started taking flowers off the balcony because the hotel was closing for the season. That should wait until after checkout. Our last evening, we tried to get a drink at the bar about 40 minutes before closing, but the woman working there said they were closing and she had to be up at 7, so we went back to our room. We were wary of booking at first, though their quick reply before the reservation and the positive reviews made them seem attentive. We visit the area to hike, but wouldn't choose this hotel again. It felt like guests were treated differently.

The restaurant team made each meal feel cozy and welcoming, and they were lively and friendly. We were glad to return to Parkhotel Schoenegg for a second stay and felt warmly welcomed back. The hotel arranged a room with a terrace and a fantastic view, which made the visit special. The evenings were cold, so we really appreciated the kind front desk woman who helped us get an electric heater. We'd definitely come back.

We stayed in room 360 as a family of four with two teenagers, and there was plenty of space. The little balcony had seats and looked out over town. The staff were considerate and kind, and helped with all our questions. The room was clean. The bottom sheets could be softer, but it wasn't enough to take off a star. Breakfast was no joke, loads of choices, a coffee bar, and everything was delicious.
