Hotel Alphorn

The hotel is 2 km from Gstaad's lovely downtown, and the accommodation was only medium, with old towels. Breakfast was the poorest we've had in Switzerland. But the worst part started right when we arrived: loud drilling from the apartment above us, which carried on the next morning. We couldn't stay in the room. The hotel should close during renovation work, or keep nearby apartments unavailable to guests. It felt very disrespectful, and the receptionist told us they couldn't do anything. We spent 20 days travelling around Switzerland and this was the first time we'd faced anything like it. I don't recommend this hotel to anyone.

I had a phone conversation and an email confirming a room for my son and me, as we were going to a wedding in Gstaad. They cancelled my reservation and gave the room to someone else. When I called yesterday to confirm our arrival, they said I had no confirmation because I hadn't provided a credit card. The person I spoke to knew my name, but wasn't helpful. She said there were no rooms left and hung up.

It's dog friendly, and the service is friendly too. The hotel has a nice setup for skiing and is right near Gstaad's most basic ski slope. The rooms have lovely mountain views, and both breakfast and the restaurant were nice.

A sweet place to stay near the snow and mountains. The restaurant staff wear traditional outfits. I had lunch there for three days, but found the food a bit poor and could only recommend one dish, the rough roast beef with fries.
