Hotel Restaurant Alpina

Alexandria & Gabriella were kind to us every day, and the views were lovely. The rooms were great for sleeping, with comfortable beds, pillows and comforters. Breakfast was enough, and dinner was great too. The problem was the crazy number of flies, with no real effort to deal with them. We had the same experience at two other places in town, so maybe it’s normal here. It felt like being at a barbecue in Atlanta, Georgia, with so many flies.

We went in for coffee and were refused service. Instead of welcoming us, the staff harassed and even threatened us, asking, “Who are you?” I was with my children, aged three and five, so I didn’t argue and just left. Completely unacceptable. Nobody should be treated that way, especially tourists with children. I wouldn’t recommend this place even if it were free.

We came for dinner last night, and the local fondue was probably the best we’ve had in years, with just the right amount of cheese. The welcome was super friendly and helpful. If you want local food cooked in a very Swiss way, this is the place. You really feel like a local here. We’d absolutely eat here again. Best place to eat, thank you 🙏

The floors squeak a lot, which adds to the character of this traditional hotel. It’s well placed for the Grimselpass and other activities, and there’s free parking across the road. The staff are great, the food is nice and the price is reasonable.
