Boutique Hotel Moosegg

The staff were friendly, and the food looked delicious, but our stay was a disappointment. Our 8-year-old got sick on the night we arrived, so we couldn’t eat in the restaurant. There was no warm meal for the adults to have together in the room, only cold bread and cheese, not even soup. The hotpot also came with an extra charge per use or time. Since one of us had to stay with our child and we couldn’t go together, it would have cost around 30-50 francs each for that experience, on top of the CHF 270 stay. We wished the hotel had shown more flexibility and hospitality in the circumstances. We haven’t gone back. It might be a great hotel when everything goes smoothly.

We were ten guys there for a birthday, and even though we weren’t the quietest group, the staff stayed friendly and professional while we had a great time. After dinner we sat by the outdoor fireplace, then slept surprisingly comfortably. Dinner was on par with top restaurants in major cities, and the wine cellar had a great selection that made me wonder how such a hidden place had it. The rooms were clean and neat, though they lacked personality. On arrival the hotel didn’t look like much and felt a little impersonal, but the scenery is like a postcard and the place grew on me. I’ve stayed in some well-known hotels, but few have left me wanting to linger like this one. I’m writing this from the terrace after checkout, staying for one more coffee and another look at the view. I want to come back, and I will.

In winter, you can have fondue in a bubble tent at this hotel and restaurant on a ridge above the Emmental valley, with great views of the Alps. Each tent seats up to 8 people. The set menu starts with salad, then all-you-can-eat cheese or meat fondue with dips including bread, potatoes, vegetables, dried meat, and prunes, followed by dessert. The service was very friendly and the food delicious. A real hidden gem and a great experience.
