The staff I dealt with, three people in all between my call and check-in, were consistently courteous. Still, each one told me the baby cot wouldn’t fit in the standard room I’d booked, which is 16 m², and that I’d have to pay an extra €50 for an executive room of 20 m². I accepted the change because I was travelling with my 8-month-old daughter, and the night came to €300. Later, I saw the hotel’s website had the same executive room listed for €200 on that date, which left me puzzled. The cot provided turned out to be more like a small bassinette than a full-size toddler travel bed. It was compact enough that it seemed it could have fitted in any room with basic living space, including the standard room. In most hotels I’ve stayed at, a cot is free or costs very little, usually no more than €10-€15. Paying €50 just to place a bassinette seemed excessive by comparison. Everyone was polite, but I came away feeling I’d been sold an upgrade I didn’t want or really need, for something that could have been accommodated without changing rooms. Seeing the website price made the whole situation more disappointing.

The breakfast buffet was good, and the staff were attentive and helpful. It’s a safe, clean area with a quiet feel in both the neighborhood and the rooms, and the Metro stop is close by. The drawbacks were the small room and bathroom, plus a badly stained carpet that needs replacing. It’s also away from the city’s older neighborhood, restaurants, and entertainment.

The friendly staff and good location were positives, but the hotel didn’t feel like a four-star place to me. There were spider webs in the room and on the balcony, clothes left behind by previous guests, and the elevator was so tiny it barely seemed big enough for two people. Breakfast options were very limited. I stayed at Mövenpick last time because this place was booked, and the two hotels are completely incomparable.

We spent a few days here with colleagues and had the kind of stay we were hoping for. The central location is excellent, parking was easy to find, and the place has a charming boutique feel. For the quality, it’s good value. It’s reliable and well run, with an understated elegance that makes you feel at ease straight away. If you’re in Lausanne, I’d recommend it without hesitation.
