BASE Cafe

The coffee and food at Base Cafe in Lauterbrunnen were delicious, and the cozy atmosphere made us feel welcome. Ms. Kasia was especially warm and kind, and took great care of us. That personal service made the visit special, and we’ll gladly return. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The tomato cream soup and caprese Sandwich cost 9 and 12 CHF, and both tasted good. Ordering on the screen and paying there was easy, the price was fair, and service was quick. The person at the counter spoke English but not German, though you can handle the order yourself on the screen. My main issue was that the soup and sandwich arrived together. I’d have preferred the soup first, then the sandwich about 10 minutes later. By the time I finished the soup, the cheese had gone cold and the pesto was getting watery. It would have helped if they’d asked when to bring the sandwich.

We could only stay one night because there were no rooms free for the second, even though I’d hoped to book two. Base Café Lauterbrunnen was our favorite place to stay after looking at several options. Check-in was simple, with clear instructions, and Lauterbrunnen Station is just a short walk away. The room had a stunning direct view of the waterfall, and everything was clean and well equipped. The café food was delicious too, definitely worth trying.

I went in even though the rating was low, which I normally wouldn’t do for a place under 4.5 on Google, and was really pleasantly surprised. I can’t speak for the hotel, but the Cafe is great. The machine ordering is easy, and a very nice lady served everything and answered all my questions. She made me feel like nothing was too much trouble. I had the local sausage and chips. The sausage was tasty and not too salty, and the chips were just right, crisp outside and soft inside without being dry. The tea was good quality too. They don’t have decaf coffee, so I couldn’t try that, but they offered me complimentary hot milk. There’s also a guests toilet, unlike some other higher-rated cafes on the same street that don’t have toilet facilities. I’d recommend stopping for a rest and a drink before heading on.
