Hotel Alpenruh

The view is hard to beat, and I’ve eaten here a few times on different trips. The food and service have always been good. I tried the special, a pastrami sandwich, which is quite unusual for the region, and it was quite good.

They have outdoor seating with a beautiful mountain view. The food and drinks were delicious, and the service staff showed great hospitality.

I left feeling like a customer was a nuisance. We came in through the hotel entrance around 3:30 pm, and the restaurant looked empty. Neither of the two men working there greeted us. When I asked if they were open, one replied sarcastically, “I would hope so,” then turned away without asking if I wanted a table. It was the worst welcome I’ve ever had at a restaurant. We’d heard the view was really nice, but from where they seated me I could only see straight toward the mountain face, so it didn’t impress me much. The cauliflower soup, at 14 francs, was tasteless. The rösti was really good, while the sausage was below average. Prices were expensive, as usual for Switzerland. The waiter also forgot an item, and when we reminded him, he acted like we were disturbing him again. Please don’t work in hospitality if you hate customers.

We happened upon this hotel with a restaurant and were glad we did. They made us fries even though they weren’t serving them yet, and they were superb. The staff member was lovely, recommended a great draft beer, and even took photos of us. We’ll definitely come back.
