Krokus

The location near the train station was handy, and the room itself is spacious, with a modern kitchen, lots of cutlery and utensils, and a stunning view. But there are quite a few things to think about before booking. It’s listed as “Studio Krokus” on most booking sites and “Chalet Krokus” on Google Maps. The terrace looks out over the view, but it’s right above the train tracks with a sheer drop, so I’d be cautious with toddlers. Trains run until 11pm and start again around 5am, and being on the lower level didn’t help with the noise. The room also gets very hot, and guests aren’t allowed to adjust the thermostat. You can’t bring pets, and it isn’t suitable for people with mobility needs: there’s no lift, and you have to step up into the shower. The toilet is very small, though they do provide two bath towels, two hand towels, toilet paper, and soap. You can’t change the TV settings to your own language, so we didn’t use it. Check-out is strict: by 10am at the latest, with no extension. You’re expected to clean the apartment, strip the bed, vacuum, put laundry in the designated place, pack everything away, and take your rubbish and recycling away yourself. No cleaning products are supplied, and we couldn’t find the rubbish and recycling spot we’d been told about. There’s a checklist to complete and return to reception, but reception is closed two or three days a week. The sofa bed pulls out to something like two singles, with two single duvets and one small pillow each. They add two sheets and two mattress protectors to make it more comfortable, but you’re told to leave those on at checkout. The cushion covers smelled strongly of dust, and we found hairs and an old earplug on the floor, which made us wonder how often the place is actually cleaned. A few weeks ahead, you have to fill out an online form and provide bank details for the deposit and tax. They only accept credit cards, not debit cards. Check the paperwork carefully: despite completing everything, they had me down as living in Germany, though I’m not German and have never lived there. Our documents were all in German, so we had to wait for the lady to print them again in English.
