Sonnenberg is surrounded by peaceful nature and lovely views, and my room was very clean. The owner was super nice and friendly, so I had a great time there. The walk from Mürren is steep. I'd avoid suitcases and take a backpack instead.

The food was a highlight, with excellent cured meats, cheeses, bread, and juices alongside the main dishes. I loved it. If I'd been able to get to Bern, I would have brought home ten pounds of the herring. It was the best I've ever had. The place is relaxing, the views are spectacular, and the rooms are good. Christoph was an energetic, engaging host, and Selena was a delight. We booked Sonnenberg for three days for our daughter's wedding. To get there, you can walk up the road from town, a bit over a mile and nearly 700 feet of elevation gain. That was strenuous for most of our group after 40 hours of travel following a work day. Or take the funicular up the hill above town and walk down. I suspect some negative reviews come from cultural differences. In my experience working with Germans, Austrians, and Swiss, their matter-of-fact directness in business can sound rude to an American, but it isn't. I'm very likely to stay there when I return for the Inferno Mürren.

After a long day backpacking, the homemade dinner was just what we needed. Breakfast was included and good quality too. The staff were friendly and attentive, and our clean balcony room had the best view in town. We had an excellent one-night stay in Mürren.

The fondue is to die for, and the food, mountain scenery, owner, and staff are all wonderful. Everyone was friendly and polite. You have to make an effort to get here, but it's immensely rewarding. If you can hike down from Almendhubel, the forest panoramas and breathtaking mountains are stunning. I'd live here permanently if I could afford it, but I'm not a billionaire yet. Maybe next year. :)

The setting is amazing, but the service leaves a lot to be desired, and the dormitory room needs some care. There weren't enough sheets, the fan was very loud, and the poor ventilation made it hot and difficult to sleep. They stop serving food at 8pm sharp and aren't very accommodating if you're late. Also, the 20-minute walk from town is uphill on a mountain.
