Nobody was at reception, the Wi-Fi was bad, there was no TV in the room, and the shutters didn’t work. We ended up cramped into a small double room and had to sit in the dark until the kids fell asleep. After that there was no privacy or way to relax. This was nothing like the holiday I’d imagined, and I’d stay away from this awful hotel. We’d booked our ski trip a year ahead, choosing an apartment with two separate rooms and a kitchenette for me and my two kids. When we arrived, they gave us a small double room with a rollaway bed, which was totally unacceptable. They said a change in booking systems had assigned us the wrong room, and all the other rooms were full for the school ski holidays.

Mr. Shetty’s team went out of their way to make us feel welcome during our lovely family stay at Parkhotel Bellevue. The kids especially enjoyed the ping-pong table, and the apartment was spacious, recently renovated with great taste, and very well equipped. Its kitchen was just right for a cozy homemade fondue night. Shops, cable cars, and thermal baths are only steps away. A warm, truly family-friendly place we’d return to in a heartbeat.

Sumit at the front desk was helpful, informative, and kind. Sorry if I’ve spelled his name wrong. He upgraded us and did our laundry for a small charge, 10 CHF for washing and another 10 for drying. We’d been on the trail for six days, so that was handy. The hotel is under construction, but it didn’t affect our stay. The new room on the third floor was a nice surprise, with a beautiful mountain view. It was a charming hotel that needed updating, and the family owners said the work would be finished over the next couple of years. Since this was off season, I can imagine the larger updated rooms would be great for a longer stay in ski season. Our unit had been beautifully updated and included a small kitchen with a hot plate, fridge, and sink, plus a second bedroom and plenty of storage. It also had a fancy Samsung TV that turns from portrait to landscape, quite an extravagant setup.

The location was very nice, the Indian food was good, and the people guiding us were really nice. The breakfast was average, though, and some rules felt rigid, like the set dinner and breakfast times. We were asked to wash our dishes when we took dinner late for unavoidable reasons. I’ve never had that kind of hospitality experience anywhere in the world.

We had two pleasant nights at the Bellevue. The room was somewhat dated, but the fantastic mountain view and the kind, attentive hospitality from Sumeet and Sahel made for a very enjoyable stay. Lenk has an exciting menu, with a range of Asian food. We had a delicious fish curry, a tender Satay skewer to start, and coconut ice cream to finish. They even serve Singha beer.
