The half board dinner was delicious, and the staff were mostly welcoming and accommodating. The hotel felt dated but was comfortable, and it seems they're gradually renovating the whole place, so maybe that will improve. We stayed at the Simmenhof while trekking the Via Alpina. It's just far enough outside Lenk to be inconvenient, though there's a bus stop right in front and it's a 25 minute walk into town. The more agricultural setting gave us beautiful valley views, along with a noticeable manure smell.

The room itself was pretty basic, with a few minor issues. We booked a room for two without a balcony for two nights, but during the first night a humming sound kept us awake. It was the most horrible night I've ever had in a hotel. Earplugs didn't help, and a friend in the next room had the same experience. We explained it at reception. The first response was that this is what you should expect when you book a cheaper room without a balcony or mountain view. It took a lot of effort to get management to offer us new rooms. They were pretty ice cold for the rest of our stay.

The road to Interlaken was beautiful, and the surroundings were lovely. It's a traditional Swiss style hotel, very comfortable. The only downside was the flies in the restaurant.
