Thermalhotels und Walliser Alpentherme & SPA Leukerbad

The pool was probably the only part I liked. It’s not worth coming just for that, though, and thankfully our tour group was only staying one night. I’d expected to give every hotel on this trip five stars and say three wasn’t enough. I was wrong. Honestly, even three stars is too generous here. The room was just bad: the curtains were frayed at the edges, the bed was hard, and it wasn’t clean. There were dead flies and live ones in the corridors, and the lights only came on when you moved a certain amount, so it was hard to see sometimes.

The spa is the best part: it was calm, not crowded, and really good for relaxing. There are two indoor hot-water pools, one a bit warmer than the other, in a cave-like setting, plus an outdoor warm pool with a stunning mountain view. The sauna area only has two rooms, at 85°C and 45°C, but with the price and all-inclusive offer it still feels like good value. Breakfast had a wide choice of food and drinks. The windows also look out onto incredible mountain scenery. Staff were kind and welcoming. The rooms have an old-fashioned style, the beds aren’t especially comfortable, and the TV is just a small monitor, but you don’t come here to spend time in the room.

The room was simple, but very clean and well kept. The hotel is right in the city center, with restaurants nearby and everything within walking distance. It also has indoor and outdoor thermal pools. The receptionist was attentive and friendly, and I recommend staying here.

That snowy mountain view from my room was breathtaking and made up for the uncomfortable pillows. There weren’t any extra ones either, and lying down was the one point when the stay stopped feeling great. Before that, the hotel’s view had completely captured me, and the spacious lobby, warm staff greetings, and nicely decorated pools were all lovely.
