Once we got past the room issue, the rest of the stay was quite pleasant. The bed and pillows were comfortable, breakfast was enjoyable, and the dated furnishings and facilities all worked fine. But we’d booked a Superior Double Room with Lake View for the view and ended up on the first floor, where we could see only a tiny bit of the lake. The website photos made the difference feel almost deceptive. The hotel could label those lower-floor rooms “Pool View” instead to set expectations. I understand they were fully booked and may not have been able to move us, but reception could have shown more empathy when we complained. I didn’t feel understood.

The front desk staff were extremely cordial when I arrived, and checkout was just as warm and efficient. I was at the Delfino for one night on a business trip to Lugano, about a 5 minute bus ride from Lugano train station. My room looked out over Lake Lugano and was very clean and functional. Everything worked, the sockets were easy to reach for my chargers, and the mattress was very good. I'll be back.

The service was bad. I called reception because I’d run out of tissues, then waited all night and never got any. The room was old, not fully cleaned, and smelled of curry.
