Locanda San Silvestro - Meride

The hotel had lovely style and ambiance, and 175€ for a room for two was much better value than I expected. Staff were friendly, though not especially warm, perhaps because they were working long shifts. We had our baby with us, and the heat was hard on them. They didn't sleep well, but we can't blame the hotel for that; I think it was the hottest spell of the summer. There was no air conditioning, though having it might make a stay more comfortable.

The entrance is lovely and stylish, and the terrace and view are beautiful. The employees were very nice and service was friendly. Our room had no TV despite the description, and the coffee maker just meant instant coffee. There was nobody to check us in at 20:30. Arriving after dark without really knowing Italian could make finding the hotel entrance quite a challenge.

The courtyard terrace is a lovely spot for a drink or a meal, and we had a fabulous dinner in the restaurant. This newly renovated boutique hotel feels very cozy, with beautiful rooms. It's in a pretty little village surrounded by vineyards, woods, and meadows.

Walking through the pretty village in pouring rain after visiting the fossil museum in Meride, we came across the Locanda and asked if there was anything to eat. The charming host explained that the kitchen was closed, but offered lasagne or cold meat and cheeses. The lasagne was absolutely delicious. We'd love to come back and stay in one of the beautiful-looking rooms we saw on the website.
