NH Geneva Airport

With a shuttle from Geneva Airport every half hour, this NH hotel is an easy choice for travelers. The driver and most of the front desk staff were helpful and friendly, and the clean, spacious room was a plus. Check-in and checkout were smooth and pleasant. As a Titanium member, I was pleased to get an upgrade to a larger Junior Suite. Our second day was let down by one staff member, who seemed impatient and avoided eye contact when we asked for more complimentary bottled water. It was almost a perfect stay, but service could be more consistent.

The renovated lobby and rooms were surprisingly nice. We had quick restaurant and room service with a good menu, and the chicken supreme and French fries were delicious. I chose the hotel mainly for the shuttle, but pickup took a full 30 minutes after we arrived, and service didn’t start until 6 a.m., so we couldn’t use it for our 7 a.m. departure. A restaurant credit would have been appreciated in that situation. Instead, we had them book a van for us and our skis for the 10-minute drive. We confirmed four times with the front desk that a van and taxi both cost 25 CHF, since it seemed strange, and they assured us it made no difference. When we arrived, we were charged 30 CHF because it was a van. The driver said to ask the hotel, since they knew the price was higher.

We appreciated the coffee or tea and continental-style breakfast offered even for our early morning departure. It was an unexpected bonus. The staff were pleasant and helpful, everything was clean and well maintained, even the shuttle vehicle, and the food in the nicely appointed restaurant was very good. The hotel is conveniently located and has an airport shuttle. We enjoyed our stay, and I recommend it.

The location works well if you need to get to the airport early, but the hotel overall wasn’t great. The rooms were decent, though my experience was the poorest. They charge a 45% premium for checking in before 3 pm, even when rooms are available. The hotel was very quiet and nearly empty. The menu was the worst I’ve experienced in Geneva. At normal prices, there was nothing fresh that was even barely acceptable. I was starving, but couldn’t finish the “seasonal crudités”: vegetables from a pot with a sort of mayonnaise (see photo). The fig salad was on the menu, but they had no figs for at least two days in a row, so you pay EUR 32 for green salad. When I told the waitress I hadn’t expected the seasonal crudités to be basically leftovers from the breakfast buffet, potted corn and carrot with bad mayonnaise, she went into the kitchen and talked about me out loud in French. We’d spoken in English, and she probably thought I didn’t understand, but I’m part French by family and heard and understood everything. The standards were exceptionally low. Never again if I can avoid it.
