Badehotel Salina Maris - Wellness & Vintage

The staff were kind, though some spoke only German, and our room had a nice terrace with a view. Still, I wouldn’t return. The hotel is about 800 meters from the village, but the evening walk is unpleasant because the road has no lights, so we had to use a phone flashlight. We also had to pay for parking at checkout without having been told about the charge, though the price was very good. The breakfast was very limited and poor. The multivitamin juice tasted fermented and bad, and the fruit was old. There were no vegetables such as tomatoes or cucumbers. The options were muesli, bread, butter, ham and cheese, eggs and bacon. For a vegan, that left only bread and fruit. The wellness area was okay but dated, and the saunas were tiny, with room for at most five people. The hotel itself just feels old rather than vintage and clearly needs maintenance. The bed was so soft that we had a lot of back pain. There was only one small pillow per person by default, and we had to ask for more on the second night because reception had already closed by the time we got back from dinner. We stayed for two nights, and I don’t understand the 4-star rating. I’d give it 2 stars at most.

The location was a plus, and the pool was good, but it was crowded, with only a few water jets for all those people. Our room was clean, though totally outdated, and the value for money was really low. Parking wasn’t included in the reservation, so we had to pay extra. Hospitality was almost nonexistent. Only a few people could understand a little English. They suggested several different round trips without knowing the context around moving seats, the cabin, maintenance, or the weather.

Getting there by train was a bit hard for us. The station and gondola are both a ten-minute walk away, and the hotel shuttle only runs at certain times. We stayed four nights in a Family Apartment. The hotel is simple but good, and dog friendly. We only used the wellness facility pool, which was okay. I’d recommend it for a short stay in the Wallis Alps.

The afternoon winter sun on the terraces is a real plus. It’s a cozy hotel with a wonderful view, and the staff are friendly and helpful.
