Today it’s a tranquil hotel and seminar venue, set among gardens and ancient trees. Schloss Münchenwiler began as a Cluniac priory around 1080, then became a noble residence after the Reformation and was rebuilt in the 17th century. Its history also includes use as a manor and a boarding school, and the place blends those medieval roots with baroque elegance.

Dinner and breakfast were excellent. The location outside is nice, but I expected the castle interior to feel more authentic. I was disappointed that the rooms are in a separate modern building instead of the castle. My room and bathroom were tiny. I'm tall, and my knees touched the wall when I sat on the 'throne'.

The food and people were OK, but the marketing setup felt a bit unfriendly. For example, the two single beds meant two beds completely separated across the room, like love killers. It was expensive compared with other options.

Loved the meal and the scenery. It's so peaceful and picturesque, a lovely place that feels out of time. A cool spot for kids too, and a place like no other.

Spending a night here is wonderful, especially when there's a medieval festival. It's an old castle that's been turned into a hotel.
