VIU Hotel Villars

The balcony had a beautiful view, and the bedroom was clean, bright, and nicely decorated. But the stay was disappointing, especially as my daughter had given it to me as a gift. There wasn't a table available in the restaurant, even though I was staying at the hotel, so I had to order room service. It took almost an hour to arrive, the food wasn't covered and had gone cold, and I barely ate any of it. I also paid for a glass of wine that never came. When I mentioned the problems at checkout, a staff member apologized but couldn't offer a refund, only suggesting they might be able to do something if I came back. I politely said I wouldn't. I feel I should at least have been refunded for the wine.

The hotel worked well for our four-night family stay with one child. The staff were excellent, and everything was well organized. We were right by access to one of the ski areas, with beautiful views across the mountains and valleys. The indoor pool was pleasant, and breakfast had a good variety.

The Chinese restaurant at Viu Villars Hotel was the highlight for dinner. The food was flavorful and well prepared, and it was handy not having to go out. Breakfast had limited choice and was fairly basic, though enough for a light start. Our room was clean and comfortable, with what we needed for a good night's sleep, but the design was quite plain. The location is ideal for skiing, with the train station just a five-minute walk away. We had a pleasant stay overall.

Horizon 1904 Restaurant is really popular, so booking ahead is a good idea. The dishes are all very well prepared. I especially recommend the spicy chicken, dumplings, and nems.
