Jakob-Hotel Am Hauptplatz

We stayed for one night with a child, and the comfort of the room mattered most to us. The view from the windows was magnificent, and despite the old building, our second-floor room was surprisingly quiet. A couple of noisy neighbours talked loudly outside our door and bothered me for about 3 minutes. Breakfast choices were limited, but that wasn't an issue for us. We don't have high expectations or many requirements, and we liked everything.

We spent 20 nights at this old, family-run boutique hotel, and the staff were super friendly and made sure we were comfortable. Their warmth so far from home made the stay enjoyable. The lake is only 3 minutes away, so we loved taking early morning walks there. Having restaurants and souvenir shops within a short walk made things easier too.

This is only about the restaurant's Kaffee+Kuchen, which wasn't a pleasant experience. The coffee was mediocre, almost bad, and the vin santo millefeuille was far too expensive for what it was. It was a sad puff-pastry ball that tasted store-bought, cut through the middle and filled with thick, heavy custard. I ate it because I wanted something sweet at the time, but for CHF 15,- I'd expect a dessert to be at least good, if not great. I'd rather see two really good choices than six mediocre ones. Maybe the food is better, which is why I'm giving it a third star.

A lovely Swiss village by the lake, with a beautiful church and castle nearby. The place feels magical, and the rooms and atmosphere are lovely. You can walk to the train and restaurants. Highly recommended!
