Hotel Bären

We had a pleasant stay in Barren, and the room was neat and organized. Our arrival fell on a holiday for them, but they left the key in a locker and sent clear self check-in instructions well ahead of time. Breakfast was nicely arranged and yummy, though the 6 to 9 am hours were a bit early for us.

The staff were super friendly and very accommodating with our toddler. We ate at the restaurant both evenings, and our choices were very well done. The menu has a lot of meat, and you can check it online. We’d definitely recommend the restaurant. Breakfast was a simple buffet with all the usual basics, plus proper coffee from the bar, which was much nicer than coffee from an automatic machine. We spent two nights in a comfortable room, typical of a small hotel in central Switzerland, and nothing was unexpected. It’s well located near Lucerne, and there are two Tesla destination chargers in the underground car park. We’d highly recommend the hotel.

The waiter helped me choose from a pleasantly traditional menu, and the cordon bleu with vegetables and fries was delicious. I was already too full to try dessert, though they looked wonderful. The drinks selection was lovely, and the warm atmosphere made dinner feel special. Even though I speak neither German nor French, the friendly staff made it easy to communicate.

The rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Bären Rothenburg also has plenty of underground parking for guests. The restaurant is lovely, with its wood-paneled ceiling and a big stove that looks ready to take the chill out of a Swiss winter night. This isn't a luxury hotel, and there's no spa or fitness center, but it offers good value for a stay in the Lucerne area. We were very happy there and would return if we're nearby. We had a fan in our room, though there is no air conditioning, so keep that in mind if you're planning to visit during a heat wave. If you want a traditional Gasthaus stay, or haven't tried one before, Bären Rothenburg is worth considering.
