This is only about the restaurant. The view through the big windows is a real highlight, looking out over the gorge and river, and the rocks are lit up nicely at night. Ask for a window table. Service was friendly and professional, though the food could use some work. The lamb shank was the best dish, and the desserts were fine. The prawn pasta had a small portion and was swimming in butter. The schnitzel portion was generous, but looked plain, almost like fast food. Even the bread service got off to a bad start: no bread plates, so we weren't sure where to put our butter knives, and the butter for three people was barely more than two coins' worth.

We spent two days hiking nearby and loved finishing each day with a drink at the bar. The best part was falling asleep to the sound of the Vispa river below the hotel, then looking forward to breakfast the next morning. La Gorge has recently been fully renovated, and the rooms were cozy, clean and quiet. The staff were genuinely welcoming, always helpful and smiling. Breakfast was fantastic, served in the restaurant overlooking the gorge. We'd happily return.

Be careful before booking. The room itself was nice, but our tower suite was a bit dirty and had lots of bugs. I understand it's over the water, but it still felt nasty. The bigger problem was checkout and the extra charges. The online price we saw upset the manager, and we were made to pay for breakfast even though it was meant to be included, as the website also says. They also claimed we'd entered the occupants' ages incorrectly, which we hadn't, and charged more than the booking fee when we arrived. No one offered to pick us up from the bus station. When we checked out, they wouldn't keep our bags in the ski room because staff wouldn't be there at 1 pm on Saturday. They did offer storage under the stairs, and Saas-Fee generally feels very safe, but it added to the sense of poor service and laziness. Prices are just below five-star rates, and in hindsight we'd have been better off at an Airbnb or another hotel. The castle's architecture is really cool and the gorge setting is arguably great, but the attitude, stress and what felt like price gouging weren't worth it. We also wondered if being native English speakers from the UK and US played a part, since local-language speakers seemed to get some favoritism. I should have read the previous management's replies to lower-rated reviews more carefully.

We went to the restaurant during the off season and really enjoyed it. It's in a beautiful spot above a small gorge or canyon, and both the service and food were excellent. The prices felt fair for the quality. During the main season, I'd book ahead.

For about the same price as places like the Capra in Saas-Fee, this hotel felt underwhelming. The room was nice, but breakfast was very basic and there wasn't much else on offer. Service was average too. With our heavy luggage, the woman at reception first refused to take us to the station, saying she couldn't drive. After we showed our disappointment, she did drive us there, and handled it perfectly well. It came across as laziness and a lack of high-quality service.
