Hotel Kronenhof

For a business trip, this nicely maintained old hotel has just what you need. It’s downtown in Schaffhausen, close to the train station, and convenient whether you arrive by train or car. There’s a small parking area right on the street outside. The breakfast room is nice and the spread is fairly decent. Good value for the location.

We were there for one night with our 11-year-old, after visiting Technorama two weeks ago. The antique-decorated suite was beautiful and huge, with a very comfortable bed. We were surprised to find a kitchen in it, and earplugs were provided too. The breakfast selection was fantastic, even for us as vegetarians. The sauna hours were rather short, so we couldn’t use it. The restaurant on the ground floor was also highly recommended, with great service from the staff.

I stayed in October 2023, and the staff were knowledgeable and helpful. Parking was the main headache. I paid through an app, and it didn’t end up costing much; the hotel also sells a voucher for a couple of CHF that lets you park right outside until 11:00 am. The included spa was a welcome surprise, with a dry sauna, a wet sauna and another one. Breakfast was included, the beds were comfortable, the room was well designed and quiet, and there was even a universal plug adapter in the bathroom. The location was fantastic. It’s now my favorite hotel in Switzerland. The temperature was comfortable during my stay, so I didn’t need AC, though I can imagine it might be uncomfortable in a heat wave. Maybe the hotel has fans available.

The location is great, and the breakfast has a good variety. The rooms could be a lot better, though, and the bathrooms could use improvement. There was no air conditioning even with temperatures at 30-35 °C. A decent option near the center, but definitely not in summer.
