The beds felt a little too soft for us, though we’re fussy about that. The rooms themselves are spacious, well equipped, and decorated with art and classic pieces like the Eileen Grey salon table. There are great views from the balcony, and the bathroom fittings are high quality. I could happily spend a month in this hotel without going out. Books fill the breakfast room and the separate evening restaurant salon, while the first-floor lounge is a peaceful spot for afternoon tea, conversations about art and culture, or sharing finds from the rugged nature nearby. The comfortable armchairs make you want to stay awhile. Even the book the hosts leave on your bed when you arrive pulls you out of everyday life and into a world of intellectual excellence. There’s plenty of good food, too. The dishes are solid, creative, and unpretentious, just as promised, served by lovely staff. There are a few luxurious treats as well, including fantastic foie gras. I tried all three terrines on the first evening. The house terrine, with its delicate liver flavor, stood out most, though the venison and duck versions were also fantastic. This hotel is a gem in the Alps, and for fans of Giacometti and Scheidegger, it’s a diamond. Art and culture are all around you. The welcome and goodbye were as warm as you could wish for, and the little shop display makes it tempting to bring home a few quality things for the home or kitchen. We’re convinced the hosts don’t just work here, they really live hospitality. Thank you for such lovely days.

The rooms were immaculate, and the food was amazing. The staff were so caring, and the village is peaceful and picturesque. There are thoughtful extras too, like a free book left on the bed and a Giacometti art gallery in the basement. It’s an amazing hotel, and I’ll definitely come back in the future.

We came away feeling refreshed from our everyday work lives after a perfect vacation at the Aldier. It sits in a beautiful village with plenty of art and Swiss culture, and the views are magnificent. The elegant hotel’s restaurant served fresh local food that was high quality and professionally presented. I was very impressed by the graphic works and sculptures by Alberto and Diego Giacometti in the hotel gallery. Lisa, the manager, and the rest of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Elaine

The room decor was nicely balanced, and the whole place had an elegant feel, right down to the balcony where you could have a puff under the stars. Breakfast was a royal sort of spread, dinner was full of flavor, and the wine list was small but thoughtfully chosen. The beds were soft and cuddly, maybe a bit too much, but I guess that’s part of the charm. Service was friendly and mostly efficient. Sometimes it helped to ask a question, and I would’ve liked a final “How was everything?” before leaving.

On a hot summer day, lunch in the shady garden felt like a proper summer holiday. I didn’t need anything else!
