Hotel Serpiano Panorama Retreat

Zero stars. The view may be beautiful, but the way we were treated was disrespectful. The day before our reservation, we called to explain what had happened. The attendant said they would accommodate us and move the booking from Saturday to Sunday at the same rate, even though Sunday was much cheaper. We agreed to that arrangement. Then on Sunday, a different attendant called to say they had already charged the Saturday price and we'd have to pay again if we still wanted to stay. We tried to explain what we'd been promised, but the man was completely rude. 👎🏽

The restaurant was one of the best parts of my solo stay. It serves a great range of local products, and the waiting staff were kind, professional, and very attentive to food allergies, so I could eat without stress. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and polite, and went out of their way to make me feel at home. There are plenty of amenities, including a spa where I could unwind. I especially loved the peaceful setting above Lake Lugano. It feels secluded, surrounded by nature, with wide views of the lake and mountains. The hotel is also in a UNESCO World Heritage protected area, which made the stay feel even more special. It's a lovely place to relax and recharge, whether you're traveling alone, as a couple, or with family. I can't recommend it enough.

I was very disappointed, and $255 (205CHF) poorer after this. I called on the morning of my stay, Saturday September 6 2025, because I couldn't get out of Lauterbrunnen Valley: the Jungfrau Marathon had closed the road to Interlaken for half the day. I asked to move my booking to the following night. At first they said they could switch it, but an hour before check-in the next day they called back, said they'd charged me for the night I hadn't stayed, and told me staying that night would cost another $200+ dollars. TERRIBLE, and the dishonest service deserves ZERO stars. I have stayed there before, and the location by Ristorante Funivia, with its exceptional Lake Lugano views, is worth more than one star. But proximity to that restaurant is about the only redeeming quality of this hotel.

I went hiking and spent a long weekend here on my own. The room was updated, with a balcony and an amazing sunset view, and it was great value. The hotel has peaceful natural surroundings, generous gardens, and spectacular views. It was just what I wanted for a relaxing break, and I can definitely recommend it.
