Hotel Waldhaus Sils

The small Stübli and cheese restaurant were highlights for me, warm and authentic, with that unmistakable Swiss soul. Waldhaus Sils has a remarkable sense of history and culture, and its breathtaking setting, grand interiors, and peaceful surroundings give it a timeless charm. For the price, though, service felt uneven and sometimes impersonal. At times it seemed the guest experience wasn’t the priority, and the large number of guests took away some of the intimate, special feeling the hotel is known for. Waldhaus Sils is still a destination, full of history and culture in a beautiful setting. More attentive service could help it live up to the magic promised by its surroundings and story.

Sils Maria is away from the big resorts, so you can enjoy real privacy in beautiful nature. In winter, cross-country skiing on frozen lakes is great, and in summer you can ride a bike. I can see why so many famous people have come here, and not only for skiing. I especially like that it’s one of the few hotels in Engadine with single rooms. It suits loners and old bachelors, and they always have something interesting to tell. The hotel has a beautiful hall that’s lovely for afternoon tea, plus small lounges where you feel like you’re in an old club. It also has very high-quality facilities for guests and a very qualified reception. Thank you to everyone who takes care of us.

Breakfast and dinner are the highlights for me. I really enjoy both, though I wasn’t impressed by the Stube and the Giggers. The hotel is lovely and has a great view, and the rooms are generally fine, though not all of them. The lobby is very nice too. Service can be rude and unprofessional, especially if you don’t speak German. At these prices, that level of service is unacceptable. Some of the staff are good, but overall the service leaves much to be desired.

We loved the spa, and our massages were truly wonderful. The nightly piano and five-course meal were special highlights, too. The owners came by our breakfast and dinner table every day to make sure we were happy and enjoying our stay, and we met some very kind people here. We stayed at the Waldhaus in March. It’s an older hotel that has kept its history, and it won’t be our last visit. Thank you, Waldhaus!
