Hotel Stille & Aladin Apartments

We usually stay for a month or longer in summer, in the apartments or studios with full kitchens. The forest trails start just outside, with a shortcut to the two nearest lakes. A short walk up the street gets you to a few restaurant options and the Ovaverva spa/gym. We especially look forward to breakfast, with its coffee and freshly sliced bread. David and the rest of the staff keep bringing us back almost every year.

The free breakfast was good, parking was free, spacious, and convenient, and the village was within walking distance. That said, the room was very basic and old, and unless you book two connecting rooms like we did, the bathrooms are shared. The beds were too short, with our feet sticking out, and there wasn’t enough shampoo or gel for everyone. Bring your own. There’s no hair dryer in the room, though you can ask for one while reception is open, and only two outlets, both far from the bed. We picked it because it was the cheapest option in St Moritz that day, though it cost about as much as some four-star hotels in neighboring countries, so we weren’t expecting much. Still, a few things could have been better even for a two-star place. The Wi-Fi was terribly slow. Check-in was only from 4 to 8 pm and checkout was before 11 am. Reception closed outside those hours and wasn’t always staffed during opening hours, so getting help could mean waiting.

The hotel folks were really friendly and even went out of their way to sort out a late-night sugar craving for us. Our room was comfortable, with a great mountain view, and breakfast was delicious. Definitely try the birchermuesli!

I had a terrible stay, mostly because of the service. This is called a hotel, but it felt more like an Airbnb, with no reception. You can’t arrive early or late. We were lucky our rain was late and we got there right at 4, otherwise we would’ve been waiting outside. I booked through Priceline for two adults and two kids, and paid Priceline the total including the children. David said his Booking.com side showed a reservation for only two people. I showed him the booking in my app and explained it was through Priceline, but he kept arguing that we had to pay him another $70CHF for the two kids. We spent almost an hour going back and forth. We were tired from the long trip and needed to get to activities we’d signed up for, but he didn’t care. The location is way out, with nothing close by. Lesson learned. I strongly suggest staying somewhere else.
