Hotel Täscherhof

They let us check in early, and there was complimentary breakfast with lots of choices. Hot water was available all the time. Our wooden room looked out toward the station, where we could see the lovely Zermatt shuttle train and the Glacier Express passing by. There’s a Coop nearby and an authentic Swiss restaurant as well. You can see Hotel Tascherhof as soon as you’re at Täsch rail station. The elevator is quite unique. The city tax is 4 CHF per person.

Our room was in the older building facing the train station, though the furnishings had been updated. There’s mold on the wooden window frames. Since this is an old building, there’s no kettle in the room, so I had to go down to reception to use one. The shower, drain, toilet, and heater all worked well. I didn’t mind the quaint old decor, it’s actually charming. Just be aware that the Google Maps hotel photo shows the newer building, not the old one.

The fire alarm went off twice, once around 10 pm and quickly stopped with no explanation, then again at about 3 am and rang for 15 minutes. Without that, we would have slept well. For the price, it was a poor experience overall. The hotel is right by the station and has on-site parking for 13 CHF a night, though spaces are tight and bigger cars may struggle. Facilities feel dated, and the shower was the smallest we’ve ever seen.

We had to leave before breakfast began, and they thoughtfully packed meals for us to take along. The hotel is right beside the train station, but we couldn't hear the trains in our room. Great spot.
