Guesthouse Meitschi Thun

I really enjoyed Meitschi Restaurant. The entrecôte was delicious, and it came in a pan so I could manage the cooking myself. The staff were friendly and the service was excellent. There was public parking available, too. The decor is pleasant and the atmosphere is lovely. The menu is small, with fresh ingredients, and there's a wide choice of beers. Thanks very much!

Meetche Inn has a relaxed atmosphere, and the staff are warm and attentive. You can tell they put a lot of dedication into their work. The service was excellent, and we'll definitely be back.

We stopped in for dinner on a weekday, not an overnight stay. The terrace is spacious and nicely furnished, and the dining room is pleasant, with good decor. The staff were genuinely kind and professional. The ingredients are excellent, but the food itself didn't quite convince us. You can see they are trying hard to do things well, yet the quality was only good, especially given the price. Perhaps they're trying too hard, and the dishes end up making less of an impression.

We booked at short notice because there was nowhere available in central Thun. Comparing it with a four-star hotel in a prime city location, including breakfast, showed us that the room rates there would not have been higher than at Guesthouse Meitschi. I can't see what justifies those prices. In the rather unattractive Westquartier industrial park, near the Thun barracks and Thun-Expo, about one kilometer from the city center, the owner would need to offer something special. The location could be convenient if you're involved with Thun-Expo or the military in Westquartier; otherwise, I see little reason to stay here. We couldn't try the restaurant because it's closed on Sundays. Guests wanting breakfast on Sunday have to walk into town or take a bus or taxi. The room, including the furnishings and bathroom, was adequate for a Swiss three-star hotel, but no more. Hygiene was poor: there were two half-dead insects under the pillow. The entrance and stairwell were unwelcoming, with leaves on the floor and an unpleasant smell in the stairwell. What disappointed me most was the unfriendly service. Reception was not warm, or even polite. The only friendly person we met was the cleaning lady. It makes me and my friends uneasy that an owner can get away with this in a location like that. The owner also seems to take criticism badly. He responded to constructive feedback from my friends in an unprofessional, harsh, and even insulting way. This isn't meant to be destructive or personal, just an account of how far our expectations were from being met. From me too: never again.
