Hotel Aare Thun

We stayed three nights in the smallest room for two, which faced the backyard. Everything was fine apart from the limited space. If you’re bringing big luggage, be aware there may not be much room to walk around. Next time, I’d probably book a larger room. The location is good and the service was great. Breakfast was okay, though I wished there’d been more choice and a different menu on the other day. The bathroom was my favourite part: the shower area was roomy and had a rain shower. We visited in May when it was quite cold, and the heated towel rail was handy for drying hand-washed clothes. One side note, there’s no laundromat nearby. I’d still recommend staying here.

The location is great and there’s parking, which is mostly what you’re paying for. The rooms are incredibly small and uncomfortable for two, although the materials and bed are good quality and comfortable. For this price, the staff didn’t impress me. The sink outside the bathroom feels strange, and it leaves water on the floor beside the bed.

The rooms were lovely, and the front desk staff were very polite. Things went downhill when we tried to book a table at 2 in the afternoon. The maître d’ had a lot of attitude, and it continued during the meal to the point of rudeness. My partner ordered steak, but they put curry sauce on it, which wasn’t listed on the menu. When we brought that up, we got more attitude, and the evening was ruined. The next evening we went to the rib steakhouse in the old town, which was superb. Nice rooms, pants restaurant.

We used this hotel as a base for a few nights while exploring the area and were really happy with the choice. The room had a lovely view, and both it and breakfast met our expectations. The location is perfect and the staff were really nice.
