My car got stuck in the snow late at night, so I was tired and needed somewhere to rest. At check-in, a female staff member asked for ID. I showed my driver’s license and asked if it was acceptable. She said yes, copied it, and I paid without any issue. On the second morning, a male staff member asked to see my ID card again. His manner made me uncomfortable, as if I’d done something wrong. Later, the same woman said I should have shown my ID card, not my driver’s license. She also claimed I’d shown my ID card at a hotel in Zermatt the day before. That wasn’t true. The hotel owner in Zermatt had only asked me to fill out a registration form, not to show an ID card. I’d followed the instructions I was given at check-in and shown the document they accepted. I understand hotels may have ID policies, but staff should explain them clearly and consistently. It upset me to be treated as though I’d made a mistake when I’d simply followed their instructions. This left a very negative impression. I’ll never come back.

The room was extremely basic, without even a glass for drinking water, and the staff’s very poor English made communication frustrating and difficult. This place seems to cater only to local customers. Out in the countryside, it felt completely unsuitable for international travelers, and I strongly recommend staying in the city instead. I also heard a staff member arguing with a customer and insulting the customer's son, who hadn't said or done anything. She said, “You have a poor boy.” A terrible place. I’ll never come back.

After our stay at Hotel Astoria, we were contacted about alleged damage to the room. No one mentioned anything at checkout, even though staff inspected everything before we left. The way the hotel handled it felt unprofessional and left us feeling taken advantage of. We’ve stayed at many hotels and never had anything like this happen. We wouldn’t recommend it and definitely won’t return.

A week after we stayed at Hotel Astoria, we received a complaint and a request to pay 250 CHF for a broken mirror. That was a surprise, since a hotel representative checked our rooms when we checked out and said nothing about damage. It seems completely unreasonable, unlike anything we’ve experienced before. We strongly advise others to avoid the hotel, and we certainly won’t be back.

A great hotel in a fantastic location. The rooms are nice and spacious, the staff are very helpful, and there’s a good car park too.
