The bed was so comfortable, and breakfast the next morning was impeccable. We had a great meal too, especially the marron cream soup and tarte Tatin. The restaurant decorations are lovely and the service was excellent. I bought the Dine Sleep Relax package as a Christmas gift for my husband, and it turned out to be a really good idea :) We'd love to come back.

The rooms had no refrigerator, and without air conditioning, the 30 C temperature on our first night made it hard to sleep. The kitchen and restaurant also close when the hotel shuts for two days each week, so guests have no cold water then. Even more concerning, nobody told us the doors would be locked or how to get in without an employee there. We stayed two nights, June 14 and 15 2025, Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday afternoon, after going out to visit places, we came back to find the hotel locked and empty. Guests have regular keys rather than cards, but my room key wouldn't open the entrance when I tried twice. The police office is across from the hotel, but no officers were there that Sunday afternoon. I used the intercom at the bottom of the door and was told a patrol could come, though it would take a few hours. Two phone numbers for emergencies were posted on the hotel door, but my Canadian cell phone couldn't call them. I looked for a store that might call for me, but every shop was closed. They close the hotel two days a week even when guests are staying. Even grocery stores don't close two days a week. I don't know whether this is legal under Swiss law, but even if it is, what about basic moral responsibility? Has the owner or manager ever considered how a guest with a medical emergency could get help when there's no staff inside, especially if they can't use their phone like I couldn't? This hotel is ridiculous and catastrophic.
The service made the meal feel especially personal. The staff were polite, professional, and attentive, and the owner herself came over to ask how things were going and make sure we were happy. I visited Gasthof Schönbühl with my sister and her local boyfriend, and the cozy setting felt welcoming from the start, with traditional charm alongside modern comfort. The food was outstanding, beautifully presented, and clearly made with fresh local ingredients. The flavors and textures worked so well together, and every dish seemed carefully prepared. I'd happily recommend Gasthof Schönbühl for its food and warm service if you're in the area. Vielen Dank und bis bald!
The breakfast is basic, but really tasty, and the staff are so kind. It's a simple hotel with a good price, plus there's a train station very close and good parking. I'd definitely stay here again.
The hotel is clean and quaint, and it's a gorgeous place to stay in Urtenen-Schoehnbul. Corinne speaks fantastic English, so we had no trouble communicating. We aren't early risers and never made it to breakfast, though I'm sure it's terrific. A bakery with a restaurant inside and a pizzaria are both across the street. The property is right by the train station, with trains every 15 or 30 minutes depending on the time of day. It isn't handicap accessible, though it does have a very small elevator. A wonderful stay!
