Peanut Mountain Lodge & Winstub

It was so convenient to arrive by train, enjoy the evening and head back. We had a relaxed time at The peanut lodge, where the welcome was very friendly. The portions were generous, and we loved the upgraded choucroute with local saurissages and homemade mustards. Next time we’ll try the beef burger. Thanks for a lovely evening!

The first time I went, the menu was fun and had a peanut-themed twist, and the pulled beef and kimchi burger was fantastic. I came back a few months later in the off season, though, and was disappointed. It was pretty mediocre.

The rooms are simple, but comfortable. It felt like a well-rounded stay, from the interior design to a breakfast that felt like home. The hotel was welcoming, and the staff were ready to help.

Booking this stay turned into a nightmare. We booked in June for an arrival a month later and told them at the time that we'd be arriving late at night, asking them to confirm that was okay. I got no reply, even after three more messages. A few days before arrival, I used the website chat to check again and was told everything was fine. My husband also phoned the hotel on the day we were due to arrive, and they confirmed we could check in late. But when we got there close to midnight, the entrance was locked with a digicode. None of the three emergency numbers answered. We left a voicemail and waited, but eventually had to sleep in the car outside the hotel because nowhere else nearby was open to take us in. It was awful. I booked a different hotel for the following nights, and they were kind enough to let us check in at 7 AM. After what happened, I couldn't imagine staying there. A week later, I still hadn't had an email, call or follow-up, apart from confirmation of the refund. Everything had seemed promising until the poor communication, unclear answers and being left to sleep in the car park. I absolutely wouldn't recommend this place.
