Waldhaus Am See

The spa is a must after a day hiking or biking. The soft robes and towels felt great, and the beds were comfy too. We also had a lovely time in the wine room, which is beautiful, and enjoyed a few bottles that suited our tastes along with the food we ordered. The top shelf whiskey and scotches really are what they claim to be, including MacCallen. I've been coming twice a year for quite a few years, and the renovations are nice and long overdue. It's one of my regular stops in Switzerland 🇨🇭.

We come back every year for a family weekend and plan to keep doing so. The rooms are roomy and nicely furnished, with balconies, and the recently renewed spa and wellness area is great. Stylish hotel, good food, and a really nice atmosphere.

The hotel has a convenient location, beautiful interiors, a nice spa, and delicious food, so it could have been excellent. Our arrival was marred by the director's rude welcome. Someone in our group had Covid nine days before we arrived and had tested negative on three consecutive days beforehand. The director did not ask to see that person's certificate, but made a huge issue of the certificates for the German family in our party. He interrupted us, implied we were lying, and made it clear he preferred Swiss guests. Over the next few days, he spoke with the other tables but not ours, which made that preference pretty obvious. If your cancellation policy calls Covid a "normal flu" and charges 90% for cancellations made seven days before arrival, don't be surprised when guests treat it like a normal flu too.

Charming, rustic place, but at over 300 Swiss Francs a night in peak season, it just doesn't meet the standard I'd expect. The bedding should be better, and the amenities more modern. The spa feels like it had its best days back in the 80s.
