Schnider Bed&Breakfast & Café

The four-course dinner at Hotel Alpina, included with the Halfpension, was very satisfying, and the server was good. Breakfast was simple and nice, with free add-ons like fried eggs or birchermüesli. Our renovated double room was in the separate building Zervreila, a three-minute walk from the café. It was quiet, with few other guests, and the bed was comfy. We also appreciated the balcony, which we hadn't expected and was convenient since we're smokers. The only thing I missed was a fully equipped little kitchen, as there were no plates or even glasses for water.

At Hotel Alpina, they told me the price would go up from 150 CHF to 170 CHF, even though I'd booked at the original rate. When I asked why, staff threatened to call the police instead of explaining the increase. That felt intimidating and unprofessional. My room also wasn't the chalet-style accommodation I expected from the booking descriptions and photos. On arrival, I was told it was in a different, lower-quality building, nothing like the cozy traditional setting advertised, and I found the room far below expectations. After I complained, they redirected me to Hotel Alpina, supposedly linked to Schnider, where the pricing issue happened. This was a deeply disappointing and frustrating experience at Schnider Bed & Breakfast und Café. I've since seen other reviews describing similar problems, which makes it seem like misleading advertising and unprofessional conduct may be a pattern. The customer service felt abusive and unacceptable for a place hosting guests. I hope management takes serious steps to improve, but I can't recommend staying here.

We only stayed one night earlier this summer while passing through Vals to visit the Therme, and the Schnider B&B was ideally located for that. The walk to the Therme was short, and the discounted admission was a nice extra. We loved our room, and the service was friendly and excellent. Breakfast was included the next morning. We'd happily stay again on our next visit.

The view was amazing, and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was nice too. If you're there as a couple, remember to ask for a double bed. :)
