Bella Vista

Our room and the main terrace both looked out on a postcard-like view, with the Matterhorn taking over the skyline. The room was clean, roomy, and well serviced, and breakfast was fantastic, especially the selection of homemade pastries. The wellness centre was excellent too. We chose this family-run hotel for its location, and Bella Vista worked out perfectly. It’s a short walk into the village but nicely away from the noise. From our first contact, the staff were warm, attentive, and helpful. Some of the finest service we’ve had anywhere, and it felt heartfelt. They sometimes juggle front desk and terrace duties, and handle it gracefully. We came to ski, and the Sunnegga lift is a short uphill 5-minute walk away. The walk back was manageable, though take care if it’s snowy. We can’t recommend the hotel enough and will stay again.

The kids are still talking about this stay, and I finally got around to writing a review. Melanie took such good care of us throughout our time there. It’s a cozy family-run hotel, and they even went beyond the usual menu to make simple pasta for my daughters. Breakfast was simple and tasty, and I loved the chocolate cake. We had the sky suite, which was perfect for our family of four. It’s about a 5-minute walk to the centre and 7-8 minutes to the station. If you can’t call out to get the car, there’s a free phone station at Zermatt train station that lets you call any hotel.

We booked after reading glowing reviews and arrived with a confirmed reservation, written confirmation, and a reminder email. The hotel refused to honor it, despite having charged our card in full. When we tried to sort things out, staff were dismissive and unprofessional. They said things that made us deeply uncomfortable, took no responsibility, and offered no meaningful solution. Their attitude was essentially, “This happens all the time,” which was very concerning. We travel internationally around 30 days a year and spend a significant amount on accommodation. We’ve never experienced anything like this. It was one of our worst hotel experiences, without exaggeration. We eventually got our money back through our own efforts, but only after a lot of stress, frustration, and wasted time. No guest should have to deal with this after receiving a confirmed booking and paying upfront. I’d tell anyone considering this hotel to read the reviews carefully and not rely only on the high ratings. Our experience was deeply negative, and the staff’s confidence in dismissing our concerns makes me worry we weren’t the first guests to face this. I hope this helps other travellers make an informed decision.

We had a fantastic stay at Bella Vista. The rooms were lovely, clean, well appointed, and had an amazing view of the Matterhorn. The staff were especially welcoming and friendly. Martina deserves a special mention for being efficient and warm, and Diane helped us at breakfast. It was the most amazing home-cooked meal I’ve had so far. Highly recommended!
