We loved the breakfast, with its eggs, breads, nuts, oats, and excellent coffee. They thoughtfully had gluten-free oats for my wife. From our balcony in the Matterhorn room, we could watch a breathtaking sunrise over the view. The staff were kind and helpful, with great local tips and travel advice, and the hotel is conveniently close to Zermatt train station. My wife and I had a fantastic stay at Hotel Carina last week. The property was exceptionally clean and well maintained. We highly recommend it.

We had a great stay in the Carina penthouse apartment with our three kids and French bulldog. The spacious living room and beautiful view were lovely to come back to after skiing, and the beds were really comfortable. Sunnegga station is an easy walk away, so getting to the slopes each morning was convenient. The staff were amazing throughout. Special thanks to Xana, Lucia, and the restaurant team for being so welcoming and helpful. The ski room and luggage room are handy practical extras. We didn’t get to try the spa this time because our days were full of skiing and early dinners with the kids. We’re already planning a longer return and will make time to check it out.

The full Matterhorn view from the other side was fantastic. The hotel has a good modern style and a convenient location, but the Matterhorn penthouse, which sleeps six, felt too cramped for the four of us. The bathroom was tiny, and poorly lit, so shaving was an adventure. The upstairs rooms felt squeezed in and took up half the headroom in the living room or downstairs bedroom. There was no soundproofing at all, so you could hear every word from the bedroom below. New neighbors moved in on the second night, and we heard every noise from them too. The ski room was too small and didn’t have good storage for boards. Breakfast was so-so, with only hard-boiled eggs and no scrambled eggs. All together, it wasn’t the best value for money.

This is easily one of my favorite hotels in Zermatt, but the restaurant is the real secret. The fine dining is incredible and affordable, a rare find in town. Since they opened, I’ve ended up coming back every night because the quality is that good. Huge thanks to Chef de Cuisine Max and cook Paul, who are amazing at what they do. Their passion comes through in every dish. If you want a top tier meal that won’t break the bank, try this place. I can’t recommend it enough.

I stayed eight nights in a bunk room. It’s a fun hotel, though a little spendy. It’s hard to compare with a hostel because the public area is so nice, but it costs twice as much or more than the hostel that sells out far in advance. The common area feels comfortable, with places to work, hang out, or relax. The fireplace and cuckoo clocks are great. Staff are all friendly and helpful. There’s plenty of storage, including a ski room with space for ski bags, shelves and boot warmers for boots, and room for shoes, helmets, goggles, and luggage. Breakfast is tasty, with fresh bread and croissants served hot first thing in the morning. Tea is free all day. The bunks are well designed and VERY QUIET, with a good amount of space beside each mattress. Every bed has an outlet, a keycard-operated lockbox, and well-made blackout curtains. The bunk room gets really hot, though. It took me a few days to figure out how far to open the window before bed. In January, a few inches did it. The forced-air heat can be dry and cause other problems. Until I worked out the window, I woke with a tickle in my throat. I think the air caused it. You have to climb a small hill to get there, which isn’t a big deal, but watch your footing going down if the road is icy or snowy, especially in ski boots. There isn’t much public space in the bunk room. It has six beds, and with a maximum of three people while I was there, we nearly used all the shared space. One small thing, you need to log into the Wi-Fi every 24 hours.
